William Watters, age 95, died Monday, September 10, 2012 in Clayton, New Mexico.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Bill Watters was born on May 26, 1917 in Marlette, Michigan to James H. Watters and Martha (Harris) Watters. Bill worked with his parents on the farm in Michigan until he moved to California where he worked a few jobs and attended college. He joined the California National Guard 40th Division which became federalized into the United States Army in 1940. Bill graduated from flight school in March of 1943 and was sent to England where he served as a test pilot. After returning to the California, Bill’s job was to fly the military top brass anywhere they needed to go. Then he was transferred to Tinker Field in Oklahoma where he flew B-29's and P-80 Jets. Bill met Dorothy Morledge who was a secretary at Lockheed Aircraft, after a short courtship, they were united in marriage on October 5, 1946 at the Moreledge Ranch north of Clayton. In 1947 Bill was discharged from the service and they moved to the ranch near Clayton until the spring of 1958 when they moved into town. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Watters on November 6, 1981. Bill later married Betty Mahannah in 1992. In addition to his first wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters, a granddaughter; Shaney Watters on May 12, 1992 and a son-in-law; Travis Michael Shugart on January 15, 1998.

2 DAUGHTERS: Linda Leser and her husband Cody of Irvine, California and Susan Shugart of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
2 SONS: Rocky Watters and his wife Kathleen of Clayton, New Mexico and Miles Watters and his wife Debbie of Clovis, New Mexico.
8 grandchildren: Renee Jacques, Michael Shugart, Justin Shugart, Lance Watters, Nolan Watters, Jason Conrad, Chase Watters and Zac Watters.
7 great-grandchildren: Tyler Porter, Cody Shugart, Zac Shugart, Savanna Shugart, Finn Watters, Tiffany Shugart and Tierra Shugart
MEMORIALS: The family suggests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the Veterans Memorial in Clayton, New Mexico or to the Union County General Hospital.
